The origins of the famous catchphrase What Are You Talking About Willis?, sometimes written as ‘Whatchu Talkin Bout Willis?’ or ‘Whatchoo Talkin’ Bout Willis?,’ was explained in a television interview by Todd Bridges, who played Willis Jackson on the show.

“It was a typo in the script and it was supposed to read ‘What Are You Talking About Willis?’ Instead, it apparently read ‘Whatchoo talkin bout Willis?’”
